AppDeployNews is an initiative from a collective of application packagers, consisting of freelancers, corporate packagers and a few small companies.
Since there is no central platform for application packaging information (plus all related aspects) we felt the need to join forces to create a new(s) platform. We investigated the current sources of information and discovered information is scattered over more than hundred websites. Some current and up-to-date, some abandoned for several years. We decided to gather all interesting information and bundle this on a new(s) website.
Every person involved in application packaging for ten years or more will know exactly why we choose the name AppDeployNews.
Experts Live is a non-profit organization based in The Netherlands that has a mission to “enable sharing of knowledge and experience about Microsoft technologies worldwide” and was founded by Maarten Goet (MVP, RD).

App deployment without a DROPLET of sweat
Michael Baars & Frank Wils
- Droplet
App deployment without a DROPLET of sweat
Delivering applications to the users is what allows them to process data. There are many approaches, and modern workplaces use app-stores.
However - there is a lot of information in systems that can't be delivered on the modern workplace, or the application does not work on the non-windows laptop. Not even discussing security and legacy issues the security officer mentions weekly.
Droplet allows to provide applications with near-native experience, maintaining the level of security and keeps management effort to a minimum. It does not matter if this is your 'temporary' fix to get the app available, or the long term endpoint for the 'archived' application stack.
...and that without a droplet of sweat!
Speakers: Frank Wils & Michael Baars

Adventures in the Underland: Uncommon Hacker's Persistence Methods and Countermeasures
Paula Januszkiewicz
Adventures in the Underland: Uncommon Hacker's Persistence Methods and Countermeasures
Persistence is one of the main aspects that hackers pay special attention to during the malware development and during the attack phase. The goal is very simple: to be as stealth as possible.
Usually, attackers aim to maintain the presence in the target's network by installing malware on various workstations and servers. However, the main challenge for them is that the malicious code needs to be available also after reboot, so the best solution would be to put it in a place that most monitoring tools will not discover. Sneaky, right? And when this persistence finally pays off, ransomware begins to act and problems arise. Since there are so many places on Windows to hide even from the best monitoring tools, it would be great to become familiar with at least some of them, especially the uncommon ones!
During this session, Paula will demonstrate several less common persistence methods we should all be aware of. All the stories and scenarios presented during the demonstration are taken from real life, so don't miss it and leave with suggestions & ideas on how to reach the next level of security in your workspaces.

FlexApp: your “Get Out of Jail Free” card for the modern workspace
Berry Haveman
- Liquidware
FlexApp: your “Get Out of Jail Free” card for the modern workspace
One size doesn’t fit all, when it comes to application management on the modern workspace.
Hybrid scenarios, migrations, and even daily management, require multiple tools and (too) many resources. Organizations are being imprisoned by how their workspaces are designed, while the only constant is change. In this hands-on technical session,
Berry Haveman offers a “Get out of jail free” card with FlexApp, a multi-platform application management solution. By detaching applications from the OS, they become universally portable over different platforms and Windows versions. Berry will demonstrate why moving away from solutions that are becoming end-of-life (or too expensive!), no longer require major projects by using dedicated conversion and automation tools.
Speaker: Berry Haveman
Close the Loop - Merging Security, Patching and Packaging for Complete App Lifecycle Management
Venkat Ram Donga & Jeroen Braak

Close the Loop - Merging Security, Patching and Packaging for Complete App Lifecycle Management
Application security, though considered top priority, it often remains fragmented across discrete processes. As the boundaries between teams responsible for packaging and security continue to blur, the complexity of managing both, increases. In this session, we will explore how enterprises can leverage actionable security insights and streamline their workflows by integrating traditional packaging practices into the same pipelines as security and eventually "close the loop" by patching vulnerable or problematic software.
Speakers: Venkat Ram Donga and Jeroen Braak

Zero Trust - Dope or Nope
Sami Laiho
Zero Trust - Dope or Nope
Zero Trust must be the worst name in the history of Security. But is it just a bad name? Does it really offer worthwhile goals or is it an overkill?
I hear sales pitches for it, like for many other security solutions, that concentrate on "What we can't allow anymore because of changed security landscape" all the time. Why does security have to be so negative?
A well done Zero Trust environment gives you "the ability to work as efficiently and securely, whether you are sitting in Starbucks or the corporate office" - Which I believe most of us want.
Come and listen to this talk about rights and wrongs of how to achieve Zero Trust and how keep Security as what it's meant to be - a support function for a happy workforce.

Sander Berkouwer & Raymond Comvalius
You can't do Zero Trust with AD FS, learn how to leave it behind
Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) has been the corner stone to many Hybrid Identity implementations, but increasingly it is becoming a burden for organizations that still depend on it. Often, it is insecurely implemented, incorrectly managed and improperly monitored, glaringly exposing the organization to information security risks.
In this session, Raymond Comvalius and Sander Berkouwer explain in which scenarios AD FS is still required and under what circumstances you can say ‘Goodbye’ to your AD FS farm. They cover the pros and cons of other Microsoft Cloud authentication methods, they show how to migrate, and they show how to correctly remove everything AD FS-related so your organization can embrace Zero Trust with confidence.

A Look into the Future: The Role of AI in Cybersecurity Operations
In the years to come, artificial intelligence will be playing a key role in cybersecurity-related operations and procedures. While a holistic approach to cybersecurity is necessary, it is simply too extensive to be handled by humans alone. For that reason, AI is becoming crucial in detecting and fighting against advanced threats, and the widespread use of machine learning capabilities seems to be the inevitable future.
A powerful tool for cyber defenders, in the hands of hackers AI can become a dangerous weapon, significantly increasing their scope and efficiency. From the rapid creation of advanced malware to the unsettling world of facial and vocal impersonation, we'll explore the evolving threats posed by AI in today's digital landscape. You will learn about phishing attacks, biometric manipulation, and the automation of vulnerability discovery, all reshaping the cybersecurity arena.
New opportunities for criminals to exploit AI are being discovered every day, so understanding its two-sided application in the context of cyber security is a key issue today.
During this session, cybersecurity expert Paula Januszkiewicz will discuss both the potential and the risks of using AI in cybersecurity. Real stories of recent attacks and live demonstrations of hacking techniques will be presented. Don't worry, it's a keynote so Paula will keep it light, educational, entertaining and let you leave with a full picture to prepare for the upcoming challenges.

Therefore, we need a way out. The way out.

Paula Januszkiewicz
Unleashing the Forensics Skillset: How and Where to Find the Evidence
Why cyberattacks are so difficult to trace back? They are usually carried out by smart hackers who finish the raid without a noticeable trace. Sometimes they get caught, but most of the time they still run free. So what to do when the bad guys are trying to access our corporate data? During this super intense session, the audience will learn how to establish informative monitoring that can alarm you if something goes wrong in your environment. They will be brought to the advanced level of monitoring the Windows operating system so that the next time something happens in their infrastructure, they will be able to collect data traces correctly. We will review the signs and symptoms of your systems being attacked and demonstrate ways of detecting intrusion patterns.
During her presentation, Paula will demonstrate the most up-to-date attacks, corresponding with techniques of discovery. It is going to be a super engaging session that showcases the best practices for information extraction. Participants will receive ready-to-launch instructions about how to extract information from various places in the operating system and monitoring solutions. After this session, they will be able to evaluate their infrastructure for exploitable vulnerabilities and find out how to recover the evidence attackers leave behind. Extremely technical session!

How application layering thrives modern application management
Berry Haveman & Andreas van Wingerden - Liquidware
How application layering thrives modern application management
The modern and hybrid workspace requires a different strategy when it comes to managing applications. Think: modular, context-aware, cloud-ready, user-centric, and secure. Current solutions (such as SCCM and Intune) are an excellent starting point but have limitations when it comes to cost-efficiency, flexibility, security, and compatibility. They are mostly focused on the device while we should be focusing on the individual user. In this session we’ll show why and how Liquidware enables IT-admins to manage modern workspaces, while saving time on repetitive and time-consuming tasks such as (re)-packaging and image management. We’ll shortly present our application layering solution including all its new features.

NIS 2.0 – Why the new EU directive will be relevant for every organization

NIS 2.0 – Why the new EU directive will be relevant for every organization
Names as "Slammer", "Blaster" and "NIMDA" might vaguely ring a bell... They are far less known than the recent "WannaCry", "Log4J" or "Petya" attacks. Yet Slammer, Blaster and NIMDA where the attacks which woke up the IT industry in 2004 - we really needed better security. It was the start of a cat and mouse game. Fast forward to today where a complete industry has risen around gaining access, data exfiltration and services all the way up to “Ransomware as a Service”.
For the European Commission, this was a strong motivation to review the current NIS (Network & Information Security) directive and bring the cyberresilience of organizations-in-EU-countries to a higher level with the new version, NIS 2.0.
NIS 2.0 becomes effective by September 2024 and can enforce penalties for business or C-level individuals if directives are not met. Think about incidentmanagement, risk control, network security, encryption, reporting, auditing, etc. etc.
Join this session to learn about the current directives, the differences with NIS 2.0, the requirements of organizations which are subject to NIS 2.0 and mostly: why really EVERY organization should have NIS 2.0 on their radar.

Privileged Access Management for Today’s Cyber Threats

Come to this session to learn about “ephemeral” (yes, it’s a word), just-in-time privileged accounts where the account is provisioned right when it’s needed and then deleted when it’s not. In this session you’ll discover:
- Why legacy traditional PAM approaches aren’t sufficient against today’s threats
- How to shine a light on the blind spots associated with privileged accounts
- How to achieve zero standing privilege and just-in-time defense
- How adopting a Zero Trust model can help you strength security
- How new approaches to PAM can shorten implementation times and improve efficiency

Revitalize & Harden your on prem Active Directory. #ExpertFieldTips
Yes, AD is old, but in most organizations Active Directory is still that reliable true core service that (de-)provisions your accounts and groups to Azure AD.
AD often neglected because it 'just works' but today it is more important than ever that your good old AD is running like a charm with hardened security, because hackers became aware of this neglected goldmine.... I worked with AD since 1999 and love to share my expertise. Expect tips on cleaning, maintaining, and most important HARDENING that good old AD now that we still need it.

Zero Trust
MicroSegmentation for FREE!
Sami Laiho
Zero Trust MicroSegmentation for FREE!
One part of the hyped concept of ZeroTrust is Microsegmentation.
It aims to prevent lateral movement and move to an identity based control of network flows. It'll bring you a more granular level of firewalling workloads and nodes from each other so that the barriers are not just at the edge of a subnet or VLAN.
ZeroTrust is the most horrible name ever... It sounds like Big Brother is watching and no one trusts no one, Honestly, behind the horrible name is a beautiful goal - To allow people to work as efficiently and as securely, whether they are in the corporate office or sitting in Starbucks.
On this session I will show you how to build Microsegmentation for free with Windows 2000 and up, and also how I RansomWare-proofed my own home network by moving to a completely ZeroTrust and software based networking model. The freedom of moving my devices anywhere where there is Internet access, even my servers, and no users noticing it... Is just AWESOME!

After numerous Entra ID security assessments, Sander and Raymond have identified the basics that most organizations seem to have forgotten. Without these basic measures, their Microsoft 365 services are at risk in terms of security, privacy, and productivity.
For most organizations applying these basics is trivial and relatively easy to start with. Come to this session to learn the basics, their caveats and then apply the basics to your Entra ID tenant!

Master PackagerMaster Packager company was founded in 2018 with the vision to make application packaging easy, fast, and affordable for everyone, starting from application packaging freelancers and small companies to large enterprises. Our team members have been working as application packagers since 2012 with more than 6000+ application package experience. During this time, we have worked with many packaging tools; however, there were several issues with them. Either they were expensive, slow to handle large MSI files, or did not have the out-of-box functionality we were looking for to automate tasks. To start creating more packages in a shorter timeframe while improving packaging quality we formed a team that created our own packaging software we would love to use and eventually make available to others. Internally we call someone a Master Packager who can package any application for Windows OS enterprise environment despite the complexity or requirements. Our goal is to help you become a Master Packager. |

Wout Vergauwen started his application delivery career 15+ years ago as a Citrix engineer. That's also when Wout set his first steps in the world of automation and got sold on it. Just let the computer do it for you, rather than pointing and clicking all the time. After almost a decade in the Citrix world, Wout switched to Microsoft cloud, starting with Azure, then switching to the stack closer to his roots: identity, device management & security. It's during that time that the idea for Scappman sprouted. Wout was repeating a lot of his work at different customers and we started looking for ways to automate those tasks. A few months later, Scappman was born. |

We are happy to help you.

AppManagEvent on October 9th 2020 has been cancelled - let's meet in 2021 again !
May 7, 2020- Culemborg - The Netherlands.
Over the past few weeks we have closely monitored the global impact of the Coronavirus. Despite the fact that the Dutch Government Healthcare Center (RIVM) advised to cancel all meetings and events untill September 1st, we unfortunately had to decide to cancel the event on October 9, 2020.
The following considerations are made by us:
- Firstly because the safety of all participants is most important
- There are speakers and partners who are not allowed to travel at this time, due to corporate policy or national restrictions
- We cannot give our visitors and sponsors any guarantee (anymore) regarding the quality of the content and scope of the event
- No claim can be made by AppManagEvent on an insurance policy when we would cancel the event at a later time
- AppManagEvent cannot organize the event without our partners, the measures taken around the Coronavirus are creating many uncertainties
We strongly believe that the in-person experience is invaluable for all participants which makes AppManagEvent a fantastic IT event since 2006. Because of this, we have decided not to switch to a virtual AppManagEvent and focus our efforts to a great edition in 2021. We will communicate the 2021 date as soon as the COVID-19 measurements are allowing us to organize the event again and will keep you up to date through our newsletter and social media.
Did you block AppManagEvent on October 9th in your agenda but you haven’t bought a ticket yet? Keep an eye on all messages for a new date. Please support the event by purchasing your entrance ticket when ticket sales re-opens. Attendees who already bought a 2020 ticket have received an email from us with more information.
We deeply regret that we have to take this decision, but we feel it is the only and right thing to do in this situation.
Finally we would like to thank our visitors, fans, our confirmed speakers and partners for their trust, loyalty and excitement around AppManagEvent: let’s plan on seeing each other in good health at the 2021 edition!
Thank you for your understanding and your support.
Stay safe and healthy!
